Roofing Products
Residential roofs typically fall into one of three categories: Asphalt, Wood and Metal with the most common type being asphalt. The following information focuses on Asphalt roofing materials. If you would like more information on wood or metal roofing, please let us know.
Asphalt or "Composition" shingles are typically classified by the length of the manufacturers warranty. Shingles with a 20 - 25 year warranty are often referred to as a "3-tab" shingle. Shingles with a 30 year warranty or greater are commonly called "Architectural" shingles. Architectural shingles generally have higher detail with a greater thickness and often are made to look like a more expensive roofing material like slate or wood shakes.
20 and 25 Year Shingles
20 Year Shingles are the most economical choice when installing a new roof on your home. Typically referred to as a "3-Tab" shingle, there are many choices in color but the style is pretty much constant between brands.
- Owens Corning Classic - 20 Year
- TAMKO Glass-Seal - 20 Year
- GAF/ELK Royal Sovereign - 25 Year
- Owens Corning Supreme - 25 Year
- TAMKO Elite Glass-Seal® - 25 Year
Architectural Shingles
Asphalt shingles with a 30 year warranty or better are often referred to as Architectural shingles. Architectural shingles are of greater thickness when compared to 3-tab shingles. To be considered an architectural shingle, the shingle design will allow for greater shadows and detail on the shingle giving the roof a look similar to wood shingles or slate. Architectural shingles are a great substitute for wood shingles when replacing a wood roof. Architectural shingles are available with warranties ranging from 30 years to those with a limited lifetime warranty.
